Hardie Board Garage

This homeowner used beautiful wood corner braces to create the effect of a railroad station aesthetic on their garage (also called a carriage home). To add to that visual, they were looking for a red base colour with a transition to gray for the middle and upper portion of the garage. Interested in learning more about what is a carriage home? James Hardie 6.25” Plank was selected in Countrylane Red and Gray Slate. This is a unique choice for the Edmonton area, with the vast majority of Hardie Plank installations being done in an 8.25” Plank. The end result is a more narrow profile - showing only 5” of reveal for a unique and interesting finish!

Wanting to avoid using caulking around the corner braces, and trying to avoid what is often an unsightly transition between two colours of caulking on the same line, we proposed Easy Trim Reveals for the corners and most trim/plank intersections.

The Easy Trim was custom painted to match the siding, and the result was a very sleek and clean finish. The resulting look lets the braces and design speak for themselves rather than attention being drawn to caulking and large corner trims.

Other highlights on the garage helped complete the railroad station aesthetic - including the grills on the windows, and the beautiful new garage door. Each detail contributes a bit to the overall design, and the finished product was one that completely reflected the homeowner’s vision!

Note: Since this project was completed, James Hardie Building Products has changed their ordering rules for 6.25” HardiePlank (among other items). It is still possible to order these special order products, but it is much more complicated now!
