Updating a Vinyl Exterior

Vinyl Siding renovation in Spruce Grove

Updating a late 90s or early 2000s Edmonton area home isn’t just fun from an aesthetic point of view, it also clears up a lot of maintenance. New homes at the time started to diversify exterior products more than we’d seen in the past - with wood accents around windows and doorways, particularly around the front of the home.

Unfortunately those products and designs weren’t made to stand the test of time, particularly in a harsh Northern climate like ours. So what looks fantastic on day one starts to wear and tear pretty quickly. The end result is a nice Summer weekend every few years spent painting and re-painting those accents.

For this project, we got the opportunity to remove a lot of those maintenance items, while adding some modern updates that made for a really beautiful exterior.

Two features really stand out with this renovation. The first is the gorgeous Tando Stone work on the garage. Tando Stone is a thicker composite stone option than many of the PVC stone products, and it shows - the end result is a stunning masonry accent. Lewiston Crest Ledgestone was selected, and the multi-toned option blends perfectly with the new siding and original metal colours on the soffit and fascia.

The other feature that really updates the exterior, is the removal and replacement of some of the wood accents. Individually, no one blue feature stood out too much in the original design, but taken altogether, the garage door jambs, window trims, column, and panel above the door added a lot of extra blue (and maintenance) to the design.

Replacing these accents with white metal capping and more vinyl siding really cleaned up the aesthetic on the house. Removing some of the detail in the garage capping, column, and panel above the front door and replacing them with clean lines gives the finish a contemporary look.

The beautiful curved window was given an update as well - replacing the existing wood trims with a custom white metal piece made to match the window. Rather than blending into the overall design, the window is now a standout feature along with the stonework and simply looks fantastic.

Royal’s Harvard Slate was selected for the vinyl siding colour, offering a modern shade that isn’t too dark. White corners add some contrast to the Harvard Slate, and tie in perfectly with the new metal work.

The combination of modern design choices and smart material selections have made for a low maintenance, contemporary exterior that is built to look amazing for years to come.
