Arctic White Hardie Board Renovation

Picture perfect Hardie Board Exterior Renovation

HardiePanel in the “Board & Batten” style has become more and more popular in the Edmonton area over the last few years, as homeowners and designers have sought new ways to differentiate their exteriors from other homes on the block. There are tons of design possibilities, as the batten types, widths, spacing, and colours are completely customizable. On the other hand, Board & Batten can be quite a bit more expensive than regular lap siding, particularly on a two-story home.

To balance the style of board and batten against their budget constraints, these clients decided to limit the HardiePanel to three small sections on the front of the home, but these sections absolutely maximize the impact. For the sides and rear of the home, they chose HardiePlank lap siding with 3.5” HardieTrim boards. With some of the savings on the siding choice, the clients also decided to upgrade some of the sections to include an exterior insulation panel to warm up the second floor bedrooms!

A real highlight for this exterior is the cedar shakes in the front peak… wait, is that actually real cedar? No it’s not! That’s a vinyl Beach House Shake panels from Tando Building products. This is our third project installing Beach House Shakes, and it’s our third time installing this colour: Pacifica. The depth of colour in the Beach House line is so realistic that no-one will know they aren’t a natural wood product - that is, until they realize they still look great years later even though nobody can remember the homeowners doing any maintenance!
