Vinyl Siding Profiles

Did you know that vinyl siding comes in more than just one shape? To many people planning a siding renovation, this is a surprise! Most vinyl siding manufacturers in the Edmonton area will offer stock of both Dutchlap and Bevel vinyl siding. There are other profiles out there, but these are by far the two most common. Here’s a quick breakdown, along with some photos for reference:

Dutchlap Vinyl Siding

Dutchlap is the most common vinyl siding profile for us, with somewhere around two out of every three vinyl customers preferring this style. The two main advantages of Dutchlap siding are:

  1. Better availability: Since Dutchlap is more popular, the suppliers keep more of this profile in stock in their local warehouses. This means that you are less likely to experience delays in the event of a material shortage.

  2. Better fit: The design of the Dutchlap profile allows the pieces to fit together just a little bit more snugly at the overlapped joints.

Bevel Vinyl Siding

The other main vinyl siding profile is a Bevel style of siding. This profile is meant to mimic traditional wood siding in shape and size. The main advantage Bevel siding is that it’s a bit less common! We install this profile on about one in every three vinyl projects.
