Arctic White Hardie Board with Deep Ocean Accents

For this project, we removed the original stucco from the home before wrapping the home in Tyvek Drainwrap. When we get back to sheathing we always install a new weather barrier, and in this case we used Drainwrap as it is Tyvek’s recommended product behind exterior insulation.

Next we added a continuous layer of 1” Enerspan insulation from Plastifab. For more info on why we love Enerspan insulation, check the link below:

Exterior Insulation Edmonton

That 1” layer of Enerspan insulation offers a true R5, a roughly 40-50% increase in R value on the walls! This substantial increase will help keep the home warmer in the Winter and cooler in the Summer, along with helping to drive utility bills down!

As the insulation was 1” thick, we installed our Hardie siding directly over the insulation (no strapping).Hardie’s maximum thickness of rigid insulation before strapping is required. In this case, all we had to do is increase the length of our fastener by that same thickness, and proceed normally from there. There are some smaller details to work out (like how to work around the existing windows with added depth, and what to do around utilities), but these are items an experienced siding renovation contractor can plan for.

Arctic White was selected for the Hardie Plank, and is was accented gorgeously with Deep Ocean Hardie Trim on the corners. New soffits in Old World Blue from Wayne’s Metals are a perfect complement to the Deep Ocean Trims.
