Blue Jay Exterior Renovations replaced Janice and Terry’s vinyl siding in July of 2020. This is their renovation story.
Janice and her husband Terry have done renovations to nearly every element of their home, from the strictly functional parts to the more cosmetic.
“It started with the furnace and then the roof and the eaves trough,” says Janice. “I was tired of all that stuff that isn’t showy so then we moved inside the house and we did the kitchen and the bathrooms.”
Their latest renovation combined functionality with visual impact. “We made the decision to get new windows and we decided that we would take the plunge and do siding as well and we’re really thrilled that we did both,” says Janice.
It all started with Terry doing a bit of research on well-regarded siding companies in Edmonton, with a focus on quality and trustworthiness. They narrowed it down to Blue Jay Exterior Renovations and two other companies.

According to Janice, it was an easy decision once Terry and her met Paul, Blue Jay’s co-owner. “Paul came to do our meeting and he was just so personable and forthcoming with what his company stands for. Their background and their training let us know that we’d be in good hands.”
Once the decision was made, the couple met again with Paul and Bjorn, Blue Jay’s other co-owner. “Bjorn was assigned as our project manager and once the work started he came by every day,” says Janice. “We’d step outside and talk with Bjorn and he’d give us a little update with how things were progressing.”
"I just knew through Bjorn and Paul that this was going to be stress-free and it really was."
This attentiveness meant issues were dealt with quickly and openly. “Bjorn brought us outside to show us that they may have to do a modification with some metal to ensure that no water would get behind the windows,” says Janice. “Later in the day he sent us an email and said, ‘you know what, we’ve come up with a system that would be no additional cost.’”
Janice says this ensured that the project was completed on time. “We were told the project would be about three weeks, but it actually finished a little less than three weeks, even though we had a day and a half of rain.”
Once the renovation was completed Janice and Terry again met with Blue Jay’s owners. “Both Paul and Bjorn came at the last day just to finalize everything and look at everything,” says Janice. “Bjorn hauled away all the extra materials so it was like they’d never been here.”
The couple is thrilled with the final product, down to the details. “It’s the finishing work that is so important,” says Janice. “When I brought to my husband’s attention some of the finishing that was done around our deck he said, ‘wow, it sure wasn’t done that way before.’”
Janice attributes the success of the renovation to Paul and Bjorn’s commitment to customer satisfaction. “The biggest part of their success is their personalities and their knowledge and just wanting to do a fine job. I just new through Bjorn and Paul that this was going to be stress free and it really was.”
