Boothbay Blue Hardie Board Renovation

Durable new siding, and a warm layer of insulation

The owners of this south Edmonton bungalow wanted a new look for their exterior, but they didn’t want the expense or the mess of stucco removal on the sides and rear of the home. Also, they were interested in exterior insulation to make their home cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter months.

The first step on this project was to remove the original aluminum siding on the front of the home. We also removed the original black tar paper so we could inspect the wood sheathing for any evidence of moisture damage. From there we installed new Tyvek DrainWrap underlayment and peel & stick membranes. Next, we installed 1” IKO EnerAir polyiso insulation on the front walls, as well as directly over the stucco on the sides and rear.

In order to install new siding over a 1” insulation layer and stucco, we are required to install wood strapping that’s attached to the framing of the home. The strapping must be secured with structural nails or screws that can support the weight of the siding and strapping assembly!

For the siding, the clients selected HardiePlank lap siding in Boothbay Blue, with Arctic White HardieTrims at the openings and corners. They also liked the look of HardiePanel with HardieTrim battens, so they opted for an accent feature on the front bow window. All new aluminum soffit, fascia, and eavestrough finish everything off for a clean final look.
