Chamclad and Vinyl Modern Siding Renovation

Wood look PVC siding brings the “wow” to this exterior renovation

The owners of this north Edmonton home were sick and tired of looking at their ugly old exterior. They had old aluminum siding on most of the walls, but also some thick cedar trims, and vinyl siding on the front bay window. The aluminum siding was dented up beyond repair, the wood trim boards were at the end of their life span, and the vinyl just looked plain old ugly. They called Blue Jay, and we got started on the consultation process.

The clients loved the look of Royal Building Products’ Ironstone siding, and they chose it as the main siding for the side and rear walls. It turned out to be a great match for both the black soffit and fascia which were completed a few years ago, as well as the white windows. The best of both worlds!

For the front of the home, though, the clients decided to make a splash. They decided to go with ChamClad PVC siding, manufactured right here in Edmonton. The burgundy colour is called Merlot, and you’ll see it on the front bay window as well as above the overhead garage door. The more orange-ish wood grain colour is Cherry, and you’ll see that on either side of the bay window as well as beside the overhead garage door.

Underneath everything is a 1-inch thick layer of IKO EnerAir beathable polyiso rigid insulation. EnerAir is breathable thanks to the fiberglass facings on the front and back. Most polyiso insulation products are made with foil facings, which acts as a vapour barrier, potentially trapping moisture and causing rot damage a few years down the line.

Now the clients have a home with a jaw-dropping new exterior, and they’ll be more comfortable year round. What’s not to love?
