Stunning Exterior Transformation with Cobblestone Hardie Board & Black/White Accents

No two homes in Edmonton are exactly alike, and each exterior gives us and our clients the opportunity to try some unique features and accents that bring out the best of the existing elements, and play to the home’s features. This gorgeous home was no exception, with some really fun details that take things to the next level, and a colour scheme that just simply works!

The original vinyl siding and windows were at the point of needing replacement, and so the homeowner coordinated both at the same time. Windows were replaced first (with a bold, new black casings), and then our team worked to re-seal the exterior envelope with new Tyvek, peel and stick membranes at doors/windows, and flashings up to today’s building code.

The homeowners opted to have their vinyl siding replaced with James Hardie products, specifically a Hardie Plank in Cobblestone as the main siding product. Cobblestone was the perfect complement to the original brick features on the front of the home and also paired perfectly with the new black openings. The front of the house got some additional visual interest with a Hardie Shingle accent on the second floor. Doing the Shingle accent also in Cobblestone gave a subtle texture difference on the second storey that didn’t take away from some of the other features on the home.

As you work your way around to the left side of the house, there were some bumpouts and dormers that we wanted to dress up as well - and so we implemented that same Hardie Shingle accent. Because of the right angles on those features though, we got to add in a really unique element with our Shingle accent - a weaved corner.
Traditionally a Hardie installation is going to have a Hardie Trim on all corners, but at 90 degrees specifically, the Hardie Shingle product can be installed in a weave - eliminating the need for a corner trim, and providing a feature you don’t often see in Edmonton architecture.

The new black soffit/fascia/eavestrough system we installed ties together perfectly with the black windows/doors, and then the White Hardie Trims selected to go around those openings (as well as on corners) gave them some extra “pop”.

All-in, the new design looks so cohesive you might assume the house was built for this design, rather than the other way around!
