Energy Efficient & Stunning Hardie Renovation

A beautiful combination of Hardie products and colours on this stunning bungalow renovation!

These wonderful homeowners wanted to pair there window replacement with their siding renovation, so we coordinated with their window installer to ensure everything was accounted for. We planned to install over top of the existing stucco - first with a 1.625” layer of exterior insulation, then a 3/4” layer of pressure treated wood strapping (fastened through the insulation, stucco, and sheathing, and into the existing studs with structural screws), and finally the approx. 1” thick siding. All-in, including the stucco, we asked the window company to build out their windows an additional 3.25” beyond their usual depth!

The 1.625” Enerspan Insulation represented a major upgrade in R value on the walls. At that thickness, we added R7.6 to the walls - a 70-76% increase in total R value! When you combine that with the fact that our insulation spans over top of the studs for minimal thermal breaks (unlike the insulation inside the walls), this was a massive change. The homeowners actually touched base with us during a heat wave that Summer to let us know that it was 10 degrees cooler in the house than it was outside - and they don’t have AC!

And while we are extremely proud of the energy efficiency achieved with the new insulation and windows, we’re just as proud to be part of the beautiful exterior design they picked. Combining Cobblestone Hardie Plank, Mountain Sage Hardie Plank accents in the side gables, and a unique Heathered Moss board and batten feature at the front and rear doors - this one is a stunner!
