Hardie Deep Ocean & Earth Tone Trim Renovation

A stunning combination of Hardie Plank and Shingle in Deep Ocean with Vivid Coating’s Earth Tone Cedar trims make this standout bungalow one to remember.

But before we get into the details of the beautiful finishing selections, let’s discuss the installation plan for this home. Originally we had discussed removing the existing stucco with the homeowner, before adding 1.625” Enerspan insulation, strapping, and then the Hardie. Unfortunately, our pre-install asbestos test (something we always do before removing stucco) returned a positive result, so we had to change our installation plan.

Working with the homeowner, we decided to go over the existing stucco rather than remove it. A continuous layer of Enerspan insulation was installed around the home, before our strapping was installed over top - secured with structural screws into the existing framing.
This installation plan allowed us to keep the original R value goal for the project, while avoiding a costly asbestos abatement project.

The unique and gorgeous finish on the trims surrounding windows/doors as well as the corners of the home are from Vivid Coatings. Done locally, this custom finish provides the look of cedar without the maintenance, and pairs perfectly with the Deep Ocean planks.
In the front gable you’ll note the use of Deep Ocean Hardie Shingle rather than plank - a subtle change in texture that adds some more visual interest to the home without taking away from any of the other design selections.

Finally, we replaced the existing soffit/fascia/eaves with a new system in Gentek’s Slate.

Overall, a gorgeous bungalow that will keep the home warmer in the Winters and cooler in the Summers long term, while providing a stunning finish to stand out in the neighborhood.
