Hardie/Vinyl Combo Featuring Khaki Brown and Pebble Clay

A stunning combination of products for a standout finish!

Looking to improve their home’s energy efficiency while also updating the look, we helped these wonderful homeowners achieve their goal with a fun mix of products.

After removing the existing siding and black paper, we installed a peel and stick membrane around all windows and doors. This non-permeable tape provides an air tight seal - drastically reducing air exchanges and helping to keep warm air in the house all winter, and cool air in in the summer. Looking to further improving the home’s energy efficiency, we replaced the original black paper with a layer of Tyvek Drainwrap.

After installing the new weather barrier we installed a 1” layer of Plastifab’s Enerspan Insulation. At 1” of thickness, Enerspan offers a thermal value of R5 - a 40-50% increase in R value in the home’s walls!

For the siding, the homeowners opted for a combination of Hardie and vinyl siding. A perfect balance of aesthetics, durability, low maintenance, and cost. On the front facing walls, you’ll see Hardie Plank and Trim in Khaki Brown, with a beautiful Hardie Shingle accent on the bow window.
On the side and rear walls, there is a very subtle transition to Royal’s Pebble Clay vinyl in a traditional profile. The colour is a near perfect match, and while the boards are more narrow (4.5” wide vs. 7”), the difference can barely be seen from the street.

For the next 30 years, the homeowners only maintenance on either product will be the occasional wash with a garden hose, and checking to make sure any exterior caulking is in good shape. And when it is time to replace the existing vinyl (our clients are typically looking to replace after about 30 years, though it does vary), you can simply paint the Hardie to match what you choose - or enjoy the minimal fading Hardie typically sees over time.
