How to add Spray Foam Insulation During an Exterior renovation

For homeowners with older houses, cold exterior walls are an all-too-common problem. These customers in South Edmonton took the problem by the horns, and re-insulated sections of their home from the outside during their exterior renovation!

First, we went in to remove all of the existing aluminum siding and the old black tar paper. While we were there, we removed the original plywood sheathing on select walls, as directed by the customers. For temporary protection against the elements, we installed a layer of Tyvek direct to the exposed framing. The last thing we would want is a freak rain storm while the house had no siding or sheathing!

Next, Details Insulation came in to remove the existing fiberglass batts and fill the cavities with new spray foam in one day. The next day we got to work installing new plywood sheathing, the permanent layer of Tyvek HomeWrap, and then new James Hardie siding and trim.

Mountain Sage HardiePlank and HardieShingle siding with Arctic White window trims is a classic combination, but the Heathered Moss board and batten with black accents really sets the design apart.

The homeowners are thrilled with the results. Their children’s bedrooms are now warm and cozy, and the exterior of the home is transformed with a brand new, timeless design.
