Mitten Grenadier Green and Versetta Stone Renovation
An absolutely stunning combination of Grenadier Green siding from Mitten and Plum Creek Versetta Stone!
We had an absolute blast working with some wonderful homeowners on this exciting exterior update. The project combined a desire to increase the home’s energy efficiency while also making the exterior something they were excited to pull up to every day.
From an energy efficiency standpoint, we did a couple things to help improve air tightness and R value. The homeowners had their windows replaced in advance of us starting, and then following that we removed the existing siding and stucco. Removing the stucco allowed us to put a peel and stick membrane around the new windows and doors. A moisture proof membrane that also acts as an air tight seal - the peel and stick does an excellent job of keeping warm in the home during our Winters and helping to keep cool air in during the Summer.
After wrapping the home with a new layer of Tyvek Drainwrap, we installed 1.625” rigid insulation panels on top. These panels (Plastifab’s Enerspan product) provide an additional thermal value of R7.6 to the main walls of the home - a roughly 70% increase above what was there previously. And because our exterior insulation spans over top of the studs (rather than in between studs, like the existing in-wall insulation in the home) it is an extremely effective layer.
The homeowner’s knew they wanted a combination of siding and stone, but had actually originally planned on a different design. However, when we put that layout into our rendering program it ended up not being what they had envisioned. Thankfully with the help of the same rendering program we were able to land on a different layout for the stone and siding - and I think it’s clear from the photos that they nailed it!
The vinyl siding from Mitten absolutely “pops” off the new windows and soffit/fascia/eaves and ties in nicely with their white corner posts as well. And the Plum Creek Versetta accent gets to be the star of the show with a beauitful feature wall on the front of the home.
