Exterior Renovation with Spray Foam

While we most commonly make our clients homes more energy efficient with rigid exterior insulation installed over top of their existing sheathing, we are also happy to coordinate on a spray foam insulation install too!

This process is a bit different, but can be a great way of improving the comfort in your home without tearing up drywall, moving furniture, and painting. For a project like this, we work on the home in two separate phases - the sheathing removal and replacement, and the installation of the siding.

We’ll start by removing the existing siding and sheathing, taking the exterior all the way down to the studs. Next we install a layer of temporary building paper to keep the house watertight while you wait for the insulation contractor. The spray foam insulation contractor you’ve selected will then come in to remove the temporary paper and batt insulation, and will then spray new insulation between the existing studs. At that point, we’ll come back to install new sheathing and paper everything.

After that, we’ll install the new siding! In this case, we installed Hardie Panel and Plank in Deep Ocean, with Hardie Trim in Cobblestone for accents. Beautiful, and energy efficient!

Any time additional contractors get involved, the complexity of the project goes up. It’s important to make sure that the contractors you are planning to hire will work well with one another. For spray foam projects in particular, timing is key. The last thing you want after your siding is removed is for your insulation contractor to disappear!
