Hardie over Stucco Front Facade

You don’t always have to change the cladding on all four sides of your home to get a major boost in curb-appeal! For this project in central-Edmonton, the homeowner’s decided to focus on renovating the front of their home, and they’ll complete the rest of the exterior in stages over the next few years.

This home is another example of how we install HardiePlank siding without removing existing stucco. Pressure-treated wood strapping is attached to stud with framing nails for a level fastening surface, and the siding and trim are installed to the new outer layer of framing. Installing new siding over existing stucco saves a costly and messy removal process, and keeps waste out of the landfill. It makes the project go a little bit faster, too! Check out this article for more detailed information about the process, and whether it might be a fit for your project!

As for the design, this project is a perfect example of how simplicity can sometimes be the best path to a perfect new exterior for your home. This property boasts a large front deck, and a beautifully landscaped front yard. Add in the naturally finished wood front door, and there were already a ton of design features at play before we did anything with the siding.

The homeowners selected James Hardie cedarmill siding in Deep Ocean, with Arctic White accent trims at the corners, windows, and entry door. Deep Ocean is a very rich colour that works well in any lighting conditions, which is perfect for this shady North-facing home with large mature trees. Best of all, the simple exterior package allows the gorgeous front door to stand out from a mile away! The result is a classic exterior design that’s sure to stand the test of time.
