Replacing Log Siding with Hardie Board

James Hardie Dream Collection Siding: Golden Leaves

The owners of this unique home found themselves in an unfortunate situation. After a botched staining job, their original quarter-log pine siding would need to be completely sanded down and refinished (at a considerable cost). And of course, after the refinishing, they would still be left with an exterior requiring considerable maintenance every few years.

Rather than deal with the headache, the homeowners contacted us to remove the wood siding and replace it with new James Hardie fiber cement lap siding. The colour they chose was Golden Leaves, one of the more than 700 on demand colours available from James Hardie’s Dream Collection of products.

The existing forest green metals and taupe river rock dictated that they couldn’t select just any colour. As you can see from the photos, Golden Leaves was the perfect choice to maintain the original aesthetic of the exterior. For an extra touch, we even ripped down the window trims to 1 & ¾” to match the original wood window trims.

While the James Hardie Dream Collection is a fantastic program that helps homeowners get exactly the look they want for their exterior, this project taught us a few lessons on the quirks of custom coloured siding. Watch for a future post on our blog for the full rundown!
