Re-Siding After a Hailstorm

After a large hailstorm hit the Edmonton area in 2019, the original aluminum siding on this gorgeous bi-level was damaged and due for replacement.

While the 70s style aluminum siding originally installed on this home is still available via special order, the homeowners selected James Hardie siding and trim - and we think that was a wise choice! With superior resistance to hail and other elements, Hardie provides a similar aesthetic with a world class warranty and excellent durability.

The original design featured timeless brown brick on the front of the home, and Evening Blue was selected as an excellent complement. And the gorgeous wraparound deck pairs perfectly with the craftsman aesthetic of Hardie’s cedarmill planks.

While the original aluminum siding’s reveal was similar to 7” Hardie Plank, vertical Hardie Trims at corners help modernize the feel of the home. 3.5” Arctic White Hardie Trims installed at the doors and windows highlight the openings, and bring extra weight to the design.

Because the homeowners may replace the windows in the future, we opted to install the window/door trims without the use of our usual trim tabs. This will allow for the removal/replacement of the trims (if necessary), without impacting the rest of the siding.

The home now has an exterior that is warranted against future hailstorms, and will continue to look stunning for decades to come!
