Royal Cypress & Exterior Insulation
The original siding on this home had held up its end of the bargain - lasting for decades before getting to the point that it needed replacement. The homeowner was looking for something that would also last decades and require minimal maintenance - and vinyl siding does just that!
Royal Cypress siding (dutchlap profile) was selected as the main siding colour, and it paired perfectly with the existing brick accents. White corner posts give the design a little extra “pop”, and tie in with the white windows and soffit/fascia/eavestrough.
We don’t often talk about the vinyl J trims from an aesthetic standpoint (they generally serve more of a functional purpose than add to the look), but here the homeowner selected to have them installed in white (rather than the more traditional option of matching the siding). The added white profile around the window adds a little more character the exterior and took things to the next level!
And while we love how the new exterior looks, we don’t want to forget to mention all of the upgrades behind the scene! After removing the existing siding and black paper, we installed a peel and stick membrane around windows/doors. This adds a moisture proof barrier around the openings of the home, but also an airtight seal - helping to keep warm air in the home in the Winter, and cooler air in in the summer.
After wrapping the house in a new layer of Tyvek Drainwrap, we installed a 3/4” layer of Enerspan insulation - adding an R3.5 to the exterior walls. This represents a 30-30% increase in thermal value to the walls of the home, greatly increasing energy efficiency and making for a more comfortable living space.
