Royal Midnight Surf Siding Renovation

New vinyl siding transforms the exterior of this home

The clients for this Edmonton area home loved their beautiful acreage home, but were tired of the faded blue vinyl siding. They called Blue Jay for a design consultation, and quickly decided to proceed with the project. The 30-year old vinyl siding was removed, and so was the original black tar paper weather-resistive barrier (WRB). We installed a new Tyvek HomeWrap WRB, a more modern house wrap that works much better with vinyl siding.

Tar paper is a good material for some applications, but we have noticed that the more wetting/drying cycles tar paper goes through, the more it breaks down. Because vinyl siding is designed to allow so much water to get behind it, we like to use WRB products that allow for tighter seals, fewer rips, and better moisture resistance over the long term.

From there, we installed new vinyl siding by Royal Building Products in the colour Midnight Surf.

The masonry work here is fantastic, but we can’t take any credit! Justin Avery Masonry did a beautiful and remarkably careful installation of cultured stone on the front of the house and the garage, including the front entryway arch. The masons spent more time on the arch and columns than they did on the rest of the stone work!

We are the ones that worked on this siding project, but even we can’t believe it’s the same house!
