Vinyl and Versetta Stone Siding Renovation
A beautiful siding and masonry renovation on a classic looking Edmonton area exterior!
This home had all the classic details of its time - siding with corner cap pieces, dark shutters to give the windows a little extra visual interest, and a small peak at the front entrance just begging for a nice accent. We took the design into the 21st century, without completely departing the original style of the exterior.
Replacing the original siding is Royal vinyl siding in Wicker. The shade is certainly different, but not a wild departure from the tones of the original siding or the stucco on the sides and rear of the home. Thankfully, vinyl siding is installed with a vertical corner post (rather than the mitered looking corner caps on the homes original siding) - so there’s no worry about the pieces falling off or water intrusion.
Rather than re-installing the shutters, we installed a white metal cladding around the windows. This accommodated the buildout of depth in the stucco areas (we installed over top of the stucco, with a layer of insulation inbetween), and gives the windows a nice, wider looking casing.
The exterior insulation installed levelled out the walls to provide a firm, flat surface for us to install our new siding over. And provides some additional insulation to help improve the home’s energy efficiency.
Versetta Stone was installed on the front walls (with a small wrap to the sides on the corners). The dark colour selected for the Versetta (Northern Ash) pairs perfectly with the new vinyl, and also offers a dark accent similar to the role the shutters played on the original exterior design.
The front overhang got a significant aesthetic upgrade, with vinyl shakes in the front gable offering a subtle texture difference to the siding, and a beautiful accent to anyone walking up to the home. The front posts were clad in Lux Panel aluminum - the custom cladding provides the look of wood without any maintenance.
