Boothbay Blue Hardie and Exterior Insulation Renovation

Energy efficient and beautiful - this siding renovation has the best of both worlds! We replaced the original siding with Hardie siding (also known as Hardie Board) in Boothbay Blue, with matching Boothbay Blue corner trims. For some added contrast, the clients chose Midnight Black HardieTrims around windows and doors. The front features a Hardie panel board and batten accent, while the majority of the home is done in Hardie Plank.

Before installing the new siding, we replaced the existing black tar paper with new Tyvek Drainwrap - Tyvek’s recommended product behind rigid insulation panels. We then installed 1” EnerSpan GPS insulation, with the Hardie install directly over top the insulation. That 1” thickness is an important limit, as it is the maximum thickness of insulation we can install with Hardie before adding strapping into the process.

Strapping is something we do all the time as well (check out a few of the links below for example), but it can be a fairly significant added cost. Doing a 1” insulation with Hardie is a great way to maximize your R value per dollar.
