Major Exterior Insulation Upgrade
Behind this absolutely stunning Edmonton bunglaow renovation is a seriously massive upgrade in thermal value.
Over top of the existing stucco, we installed a 3” layer of Enerspan insulation for a huge R 14.1 increase in thermal value on the exterior walls. That’s more than what was there currently (approx. R10). With this much insulation added, the home now exceeds the R22 required for main walls of a home built in Alberta today. And it has the added benefit of being installed outside of the studs - so no thermal break at each individual stud for optimal efficiency. The net effect is a wonderfully warm blanket in the Winter, helping to keep the house warm. And that blanket actually performs just as well in the Summer, helping to keep things cool during our July and August heat waves.
Beyond the exterior insulation benefits, this home looks absolutely wonderful. Royal Shamrock was a perfect choice for the main siding colour, and the traditional profile helps keep the charm of the original wood siding. The white vinyl corner posts pair perfectly with the white windows and the new soffit, fascia, and eavestrough we installed. By the way - isn’t it nice getting that downspout off the front face of the home and to the side so you can focus on the beautiful front door and new exterior light?
Finally, that nice big gable in the front of the house was screaming for an accent product, and Tando’s Beach House shakes delivered! Installed in the colour Pacifica, Tando’s Beach House line is the perfect option for Edmonton homeowners seeking a cedar shake look without having to give up a Summer day to maintenance every year. It’s a solid, thick gauge PVC product that looks every bit as good as the real thing, and it pairs perfectly with the Shamrock siding. A perfect finishing touch on a beautiful and energy efficient siding renovation.
